Summary of Position
The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring all projects comply with local, state, and federal health and safety guidelines and procedures. This role ensures the safety of all employees, verifies projects meet regulatory standards, and provides recommendations for continuous safety improvements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Comply with all occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines.
- Inspect worksites and review working conditions.
- Document reports of occurrences and maintain statistical records.
- Develop and implement OHS training programs.
- Maintain safety regulations during installation and repairs.
- Oversee disposal of substances according to environmental guidelines.
- Ensure statutes, regulations, and codes are clearly understood and met.
- Intervene to stop unsafe acts or processes that do not comply with OHS guidelines.
- Implement preventative measures to avoid recurrence of unsafe practices.
- Ensure all personnel follow personal safety precautions (e.g., protective glasses, gloves, hardhats).
- Provide training and educational opportunities for production associates and other relevant personnel in coordination with appropriate departments.
- Conduct and review post-accident and safety violation investigations in accordance with company policies and state regulations.
- Update procedures and policies to reflect new regulations or local ordinances.
- Flexibility to work nights or weekends as needed is helpful.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Skills
- Ability to identify potential hazards and assess risks in various work environments.
- Expertise in conducting thorough investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses.
- Ability to analyze safety data, track trends, and use metrics to measure program effectiveness.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of emergency response planning.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel).

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, Construction, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in workplace safety and compliance programs.
- Knowledge of state and local statutes and ordinances related to fire safety, hazardous chemicals, building codes, electrical standards, noise, pollution, and environmental regulations.
